Flush Ceiling Lights
Flush ceiling lights are the ideal solution for lighting rooms with low ceilings, where space is limited but style still matters. Sitting close to the ceiling, these fittings provide bright, even illumination without overwhelming the room.
At Universal Lighting, you’ll find a wide range of flush ceiling lights, including modern LED designs, classic glass styles, and decorative crystal fittings that are ideal for living rooms, bedrooms, hallways, dining rooms and kitchens.

Why choose flush ceiling lights
- Flush lights save space as they fit directly to the ceiling. They are ideal for low ceilings, provide ample light and don’t compromise headroom.
- They are versatile, with styles ranging from modern minimalist to classic elegance, there’s a design for every home.
- Flush mounts are suitable for high ceilings too. Just because they are low-profile doesn’t mean they can’t be used in your bedroom, hallway or living room. Their low profile silhouette gives an uncluttered look in any modern space.
- No trailing wires or chains on view means that they look sleek and minimalist.
- All of our fittings accept LED bulbs, reducing energy costs and environmental impact.
- Suitable for any room, including bedrooms, kitchens, and IP rated flush fittings for bathrooms.

Flush ceiling lights for low ceilings & modern homes
If you have a home built after 1970, a 19th century terraced home, a cottage or any space with a low ceiling, (under 2.4m or 8ft), then flush ceiling lights are for you. Their low profile design fits directly to the ceiling, without any hanging chains, cable or other potential hazards.
Where to use flush lights?
- Bathrooms & Kitchens: You need plenty of light in these rooms to perform tasks like cooking, shaving and applying makeup. A low profile light with three or more bulbs and glass shade will provide ample light, be easy to clean and look good too.
- Bedrooms: Bedrooms are usually smaller than living rooms and usually require a more subdued ambience. A small frosted or coloured glass flush mount will provide ample light without glare. Tip: Use a dimmer switch for ultimate flexibility.
- Hallways & Vestibules: Smaller hallways and vestibules often have limited space to work with and are ideal for flush fitting lights. Their high output, compact dimensions and low profile make them ideal for smaller spaces.
- Living & Dining Rooms: If your living or dining areas have low ceilings, you can transform them into warm, well lit, inviting and functional spaces by using a larger flush with at least three bulbs and fit a dimmer switch. This ensures that every corner of the room will be well lit and the level of illumination can quickly be adjusted to suit your activity or mood.
What style?
- Traditional Flush: They feature timeless classic style with traditional finishes such as antique brass, bronze and satin nickel finishes, often with frosted, plain or Tiffany style glass. Best for traditional homes.
- Modern Flush: These typically feature more contemporary design cues such as opal or ribbed glass, with outer metalwork frames, more angular profiles and finishes like polished chrome or nickel, matt black and gold.
- Crystal Flush: Glamorous and luxurious, these typically feature a flush ceiling plate in polished chrome or gold housing the bulbs, with hanging crystal creating a stunning display. More modern variations can feature a crystal encased drum housing the bulbs.
Whether you live in a modern flat, a vintage cottage or traditional home, there’s a flush-mounted ceiling light suitable for you.
How big should my flush light be?
As a rough guide, add the length and width in feet of the room together and convert the result to inches, so a 10ft x 10ft room would require a 10” (25cm) diameter fitting as a minimum.
How bright should my flush mount be?
This is a difficult question to answer as it depends on the type of room and its purpose. For example, a bathroom or kitchen needs to be brighter than a bedroom or lounge. Wattage or lumens will help you determine how much light a fitting offers. 800 – 1000 lumens (100w equivalent) will provide enough light for smaller spaces whilst larger living or dining rooms will need 3000 lumens or more. Tip: Always fit a dimmer for flexibility.
Are LED flush ceiling lights any good?
LED flush lights tend to be very modern in style and can be an excellent choice in contemporary homes. Small, bright and energy efficient, some can be dimmed whilst others cannot. Often supplied with a 5-year warranty, they last a very long time. Tip: Always check the lumen output before purchase.
Frequently asked questions
What is a flush ceiling light?
A flush ceiling light mounts directly on the ceiling without chains or drop rods. Designed for rooms with limited height, they offer sleek, uncluttered looks and modern efficiency.
Will a flush light be bright enough?
Our flush lights are available with a single bulb and as many as eight, so you are certain to find one that’s bright enough for you. If you measure the size of your room and call us on 0151 650 2138, one of our lighting specialists will be happy to advise you.
Can I dim my flush ceiling light?
Yes! The majority of our lights are dimmable when dimmable bulbs are used and a compatible dimmer switch. Some LED fittings are not dimmable, so please check the product information first.
What’s the difference between flush and semi-flush lights?
Flush fittings are mounted directly to the ceiling whilst semi flush lights usually drop a little more, typically 10 – 20cm. Semi flush fittings typically feature uplighter shades of swirling arms, providing more visual interest than a flush mount. In either case, there should be 2m of headroom below the fitting so as not to impede access.
What warranty do they come with?
All of our flush lights come with a minimum of 2-years warranty, with dedicated LED fittings enjoying a 5-year warranty for peace of mind.
