Halogen Energy Saving Bulbs
Halogen Lamp Bulbs
Halogen energy saving bulbs are the sunshine bulb as they produce a very bright light that is very close to noonday sunlight. They are available in many different types and in all base caps. If you want good dimming performance whilst saving up to 30% on electricity, good quality light and a pleasing appearance then it may be that a halogen energy saver is the right bulb for you. So you get the savings in energy consumption but the real beauty of these lights is that they are bright from the moment you switch them on.
Halogen lamps have a tungsten filament and are filled with a mixture of argon and halogen gas. They are made to a much higher specification than the old incandescent light bulbs as they have to cope with more heat due to the very high temperatures that they can reach.
They do cost more than the outgoing light bulbs but they can last up to three times longer that an incandescent bulb of the same wattage. Halogen energy saving bulbs are at least 20% more efficient and up to 35% more efficient than an ordinary light bulb without any of the disadvantages that fluorescent light bulbs can have.
Halogen energy savers behave in exactly the same way as the old style incandescent light bulb. They give instant light as soon as they are switched on, resemble the old fashioned light bulb and are dimmable on a standard dimmer. Although they are not as energy efficient as the CFL lamp (compact fluorescent), they are perfect for use where the lamp can be seen or for areas where instant light is required such as landings and outdoor PIR lights.
Most CFL and LED bulbs cannot be dimmed using a standard dimmer, although there are now specialist CFL lamps and dimmable LED lamps becoming more available. Although they are much more expensive to purchase they are typically 80% – 90% more efficient than the incandescent light bulb and will last for between 10,000hrs and 50,000hrs plus. The light output on most CFL and LED lamps is not of the same quality as a halogen energy saving lamp, although this is improving all of the time.
