Traditional Ceiling Lighting

So, what are the traditional light fixtures? Brass ceiling lights are normally associated with traditional settings, yet they are available in many different styles, from Victorian and Georgian, to elegant and classical chandeliers.  I suppose that the best way to describe them is that they have and will stand the test of time. Chandeliers and antique finish multi-armed fittings in Victorian and Georgian styles are probably the most recognisable.

Traditional Lighting Has Longevity

Ceiling lighting is often the main source of illumination in many rooms, so deciding on the right size and style is not something that should be rushed. If you are looking for a traditional style, then chances are that you are looking for a fitting that will give many years of trouble free service whilst blending with your traditional décor.

Traditional lighting certainly has longevity. We all see trends or fashions come and go and ever so quickly as they can sometimes look dated in a short space of time. When you choose a traditional design you are choosing something that will outlive any short-term trends and blend into any changes in decor that you may make over the coming years.

This style sometimes conjure the image of being boring and plain, but this is not the case. There is a tremendous selection of traditional, classical and elegant lighting designs you will never get tired of looking at. The larger designs are sometimes referred to as multi arm fittings. This simply means that the chandelier has numerous lamp holders rather than just one. Multi arm styles are normally available in 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8 arms, with the very large designs having more than one tier.

Tiered means that there is more than on level of lamps, say 3 arms on a top level and 6 on a lower level on a nine-light fitting. These tend to be large and need a good ceiling height to accommodate them. They are often best suited to very high ceilings that are found in the stairwell of a hall where the ceiling is at its highest.

Whatever you choose, please ensure that it is of the correct proportion and will give adequate illumination for every activity that will take place in that room. It is often more desirable to get a fitting that gives slightly more light than you require and fit a dimmer so you can adjust light levels for every occasion.
