The Kutani porcelain butterflies large ginger jar table lamp base, hand-thrown and hand-painted glazed porcelain of the highest quality, finished with pure gold and sitting on a dark hardwood base.
Glazed ivory base colour, overlaid with a scene depicting flowers in shades of blue and butterflies in red, blue and pale gold, highlighted with gold. The jar body is trimmed with a deep blue band overlaid with a geometric gold pattern; the lid rim is finished with pure gold and fitted with a solid brass switched lamp holder. This is a large table lamp base and will require a shade of around 20-inches in diameter.
This description has been written lovingly by a man who, as you know cannot recognise colours very well, so please take a close look at the picture and ensure that the description is accurate.
Please note that this is a completely hand-crafted product and the colours or patterns may vary slightly from the image shown. It is impossible for them to be replicated time and again unless machine techniques are used. This should not be seen as a fault but something that makes each one unique.
Kutani porcelain originated in a village in Japan, where traditional skills of potting and painting have been used for nearly 400 years and continues to this day. This cottage industry uses these skills to produce unique lamp bases in stunning colours and designs. Kutani lamps will undoubtedly be the antiques of the future.
Sadly the production of Kutani is in decline. As the craftsmen and women retire, few young people take up the skills required. Interiors 1900 have played an important part in supporting this craft for the past 20 years.
The Kutani porcelain butterflies large ginger jar table lamp base gives everyone the opportunity to own a piece of this art.
