Semi Flush Lighting
Homes built after after 1970 tend to have lower ceilings than older houses. A semi flush ceiling light is the answer as they are fitted closer to the ceiling and give you a fantastic range of suitable lighting to choose from. Choose your semi flush light from a variety of styles and finishes to suit every taste and environment.
Semi flush ceiling lights play an important role when choosing ceiling lights for rooms with lower ceilings. Newer homes tend to have ceilings that are around 2.2M whereas older properties have ceilings of 3M and higher. It is sometimes impossible to have a pendant or drop ceiling light fitting in a newer style property due to the height limitation.
A semi flush ceiling light will normally have a central drop or stem on which the arms are mounted. They are usually between 150 and 350mm tall making them perfect for rooms with lower ceilings.
The great thing about semi flush ceiling lights is that they can be used anywhere. On high ceilings a semi flush light fitting can be a feature whilst giving a less intrusive light. Mounted on a landing or in a stairwell, semi flush fittings can look spectacular as the eye is drawn up the stairs to the light fitting above.
Halogen semi flush lights are spectacular and can be a fantastic addition to any room, with the added benefit of being dimmable.
More traditional styles may have glass shades fitted with either upward or downward facing light bulbs. Both will give different types of lighting effects. The upward facing bulb will bounce light off the ceiling and back into the room giving a more diffused light, whilst the downward facing bulb will give a more direct light. It is also worth remembering that you can see the light bulb in a downward facing light fitting so it may be worth fitting opal or soft tone lamps.
Whatever you decide, remember to ensure that your light fitting will give adequate light for its use and that it is proportionate to the surroundings.
