Garden Post Lights - Bollard Lights

Garden post lights or bollard lights can make a nice understated alternative to a large imposing garden lamp post. Generally they are used in numbers to outline a garden path, driveway, patio or pond to add an extra dimension. Garden post lighting is fairly unobtrusive and will give a pool of diffused light to the surrounding area. Bollard lighting can be used with good effect to outline any garden area whilst adding safety and security to the space. We supply garden post and bollard lights in many different styles and finishes, so you are sure to find something to complement your home and suite your taste.

Generally, a post light is designed to be installed on gate posts, larger fence posts, low garden walls or around raised flowerbeds. Some will spread light all around whilst others may direct the light towards the ground making them perfect for lighting pathways or a garden feature such as a pond or specimen plant. The electrical cable will always enter an outdoor post light through the bottom of the light fitting.

The cable must be installed before the fitting to ensure that everything is weatherproof and safe. Spend a little time at the planning stage to ensure that you get the right type of fitting in the right place. That way, the electrical cables can be installed in exactly the right location prior to fitting the lights. As always, we recommend that a qualified electrician undertakes all electrical installations.

Bollard lights tend to be taller and are free standing. Bollard lighting is perfectly suited to lighting a driveway, pathway or garden patio area. Most bollard lights will shine the light through 360°, but some shine the light directly downwards providing a lovely circle of light.

Once again, bollard light cables enter through the base; so careful planning of the electrical installation is necessary.

We supply many styles of post and bollard lights, ranging from the classic black finish through to modern stainless steel finishes. Many have a gold or silver patina, which is simply a highlighted colour on a base coat.

Finally, if you want to add a movement sensor to your outdoor lighting installation, it is a very simple task. It is important that the movement sensor is rated at the correct amperage for the installation and placed in the correct position to get the desired effect. Similarly, a photocell may be fitted to automatically switch the lights on at dusk and off again at dawn. Again, this is a simple installation and is extremely convenient.
