Exterior brass and copper lighting became more and more popular during the Edwardian and Victorian eras. They quickly recognised that brass and copper were easy materials to work with and that they would last for a very long time outdoors, with little or no maintenance. In the early days, candles or oil lamps were used, then gas lamps and finally, the electric lamps that we use to this day.
Today, brass and copper outdoor lights are becoming increasingly difficult to find, mainly due to the high cost of the raw materials. This makes them more expensive than those made from other materials, but well worth the long-term investment.
Solid brass lighting will always add something to an outside space. Brass is totally rustproof and as the years pass, the rain and sunshine will weather the finish and it will become unique in appearance. They may be brought back to their original appearance if desired by using a propriety fine metal polish.
Copper outdoor lighting is even more difficult to find due to the very high price of copper.
