Table Lamps

Table Lamp Lighting

Table LampsA table lamp is not just for providing a secondary lighting source it is also a decorative room accessory. By careful selection of the height, style and shade colour, a table lamp can add accent colour to any room.

Table lamps have the ability to give any room warmth by providing pools of light in any area you choose. Table lamp lighting can create a depth and ambient glow in any room. In short, they can be sexy.

As always, size and proportion are important. A table lamp of the correct height should have the bottom of the shade at or below eye level to avoid unwanted glare from the bare light bulb when viewed. This is easy to check before you select the lamp by sitting close to where it will be placed and measuring theheight to your eye level. Our ceramic, glass and crystal table lamps tend to be larger and of the correct proportion for most living rooms.

Table lamps placed in pairs on either side of a bed, fireplace or alcove can look particularly stunning, whils creating balance and depth. Bedside table lamps are usually smaller in size than other types but they should also be considered for use in hallways and smaller rooms.

Desk lamps and bankers lamps are not just attractive decorative but also excellent as task lighting or reading lamps. They have the added advantage of directing the light downwards creating a very soft light in the surrounding room. They are a great choice for the home office or for undertaking tasks such as sewing, knitting or model making.

Use an adjustable directional desk lamp at your computer workstation to illuminate the keyboard and the area directly in fromnt of you. This will illuminate shadows created by light from the monitor, make it far easier to read any documents and help you avoid eyestrain and shadows.

If you are using a desk lamp for fine craftwork such as sewing, emboidery, drawing or homework, then a daylight bulb will give excellent light to work by. Daylight bulbs are often called craft lamps for good reason, as they reproduce noon daylight and give exceptional contrast and rendition.
