For a number of years now fabric shades for table lamps and standard lamps have been out of fashion and had been replaced with the hard backed lamp shades that come complete with the lamp purchased.

Over the past few months the soft shade has seen an increase in sales and more and more people are starting to make enquires as to what we have in stock and the colours available.

Choosing the right size of lampshade can be a daunting task and is the most important factor when it comes to buying a shade for your existing lamp base. Generally there is no better way than seeing it in real life and if you can, nothing is better than taking your lamp into your local lighting stockists and trying on various sizes on your base. Proportion is everything.

Soft shades come in a variety of different sizes. Below is a list of the general sizes available.

The table below should only be used as a guide only. Please be very aware that different shapes and designs of fabric shades can alter the overall look of the shades on your lamp. For instance, if the shade includes tassels or fringe it will appear much longer. Choosing the right fabric shade that suits your lamp is a very individual preference. Some people don’t like to see any part of the lampholder, so they would choose either a shade with a fringe or a larger shade, whereas others may prefer to see a small amount of the lamp stem.

5 inch. These are generally sold for use on wall lights or chandeliers. They are made with a clip inside the shade so that they sit on top of a normal household light bulb.
8 inch 8 to 10 inches high.
10 inch 9 to 12 inches high
12 inch 11 to 14 inches high
14 inch 14 to 18 inches high
16 inch 17 to 24 inches high
18 inch 17 to 24 inches high
20 inch 17 to 24 inches high
22 inch Standard floor lamps
